Hey guys. As I stated I am writing a book on Rastafari for all of you. This is my first book, and I have other things to do in my life so I have kind of slowed down on the writing for now. The good news is the rough copy is all done….so I just have to finish the final copy and we are all set. I know many of you wonder what Rastafarians believe on a whole slew of topics, but I wanted to make this post specific on love dating and marriage.

Rasta beliefs on dating non Rastas

rasta love and marriage Many “deep” for lack of better word, Rastafari men and women will not date someone outside of their spiritual beliefs. We understand that this could mean being single for a long time and even maybe forever. We depend on Jah to bring us the right person when the time is right. However, there are some Rasta who are ok with the notion of meeting someone who is not Rasta and then “converting” that person for lack of a better word, into Rastafari. So, like anything else to each his own. You will find more men will date a non Rasta woman, and more Rasta women, will not date a non Rasta man. This is generally speaking. Maybe its all about availability….who knows.

Why do some Rastas like Bob Marley have so many women?

Rasta men, are not immune to having multiple relationships with women. But truly I feel they just have too much love in their hearts. This is gonna get me in trouble….Most Rastafari men I would say 95% are faithful, and 5 percent not so faithful. This is for various reasons. Bob Marley was a very good-looking superstar, and he was Rastafari. Many women were attracted to him and I’m sure him attracted to them. What I am getting at is this for some men of Rastafari they have many women at one time because the women allow it. On the other hand there are Rastafari men who just don’t believe in sleeping around at all. In fact most of us “Jamaican Ras” operate in this manner. People get away with what they can folks…bottom line.

Do Rastas believe in true love?

Rastas believe big time in true love. We do believe that true love is possible, and when we love we love with all our hearts. For someone who is not ready for this type of love, they may feel undeserving, or “smothered” Rastas get into a relationship intending to stay there, most of us, for the most part. Love is one of the things we live for. With love, food tastes better, life looks brighter, and we can be mentally clearer. Romantic love is an essential part of human life. As an earthly being we have earthly needs. Love and affection are paramount to a person of Rastafari spirituality.

How can I make my Rasta King love me more?

Many women have put comments regarding their relationship wondering, is he truthful? Is he sleeping around? Things of this nature. Perhaps if you feel the need to ask these questions, he is not the one for you. If your man is clearly accessible and perhaps you want to deepen the bond the two of you have as a non Rastafari woman, trust him, and believe what he tells you about “Jah” and about life. Eat how he eats, live how he lives, love him how he loves you and respect it. Your Rasta King will greatly appreciate this. Rasta beliefs on Marriage

Truth is ladies, we Rastas don’t really believe in marriage. That is not to say we wont do it. Just most of us don’t make a big deal out of it. We believe the relationship is the marriage, and like marriage if we no longer want to be in the relationship we will leave. We also believe marriage doesn’t come with any gaurantees…just because you are married it doesn’t mean the person will love you for ever. We believe in letting love just be what it’s going to be and that a piece of paper isn’t all that important when it comes to matters of the heart. The support, the communication, being reliable, and being each others best friend is what a relationship should be all about. Put your heart in it and it will be great. I have met people who say they are Rasta and are not. So this I write here and now is not about them. I am writing about the “true” Jamaican Rasta man. The kind who is humble, considerate, and gentle. The kind any woman would fall in love with. But these men are not always easy to be with, for many reasons. To sum it all up. If you are not Rasta your self, a Jamaican Rasta man may be difficult to deal with, and hard to understand his motivations.

Be gentle with your Rastaman

Be gentle with your rastaman, he is special and a true gift from God in the deepest meaning possible. Forgive him when he hurts you and is unaware of it.

Give your Rasta man space to be him self

Give your rastaman space to be him self. If you are not Rasta, this is of the utmost importance to keeping your relationship with him healthy and thriving. Not giving your rastaman space is a very fast road to having him run away from you.

Give him lots and lots of love, but be pure and clean spiritually

Give your Jamaican Rasta man, lots and lots and lots…did I say lots? ….of love. The only way your “true” Jamaican rasta man is going to reject your love is if he feels you are not good for him. Which usually means you are acting like your life is to serve the man “downstairs” instead of the man “upstairs” and that we Ras do not accept. So, give him lots of love and affection, and loving attention. If you have a true Jamaican rasta man in your life ladies…believe me you don’t even need a television set, if you catch my drift. Jah makes beautiful things.

There Rastafari men who don’t even have one lover, there are Rastafari men who are very faithful, there are Rastafari men who wouldn’t even think to cheat on their women. Those men are probably with women who value the faith, and value themselves, among other things. You also have to remember, Bob Marley was a Superstar! Superstars have groupies, and we all know he is not the first man to have a baby with another woman outside of his legal marriage – and he wont be the last!

There are a lot of Jamaican men who are promiscuous. But I have said it before and I will say it again. I truly believe this is because in places like Canada and the United States they get spoiled. Very spoiled. Most of the women accept this bad behavior, so the men do it because they are getting away with it. One or two bad experiences and we women feel all the men are like that. But truly a Rasta man – a “true” Rasta man is not like that, I know that from my heart. Because The Most High created him to know “right from wrong”

Many women are very attracted to The Rasta man. Some say its the hair (dreadlocks) I say its his inner self that attracts women. The innocence of his soul that is showing, ok yes. Combined with the dreadlocks, and some dark beautiful skin, this is very alluring. So, ladies don’t complain, if you wanted him, and you got him, just know to see someone and to know them are two different things.

My own Jamaican Rasta man, at least I hope ??

Can you believe I don’t officially have my own Jamaican Rasta man? I tell you what being a Rastafari woman and dating, Is not an easy thing. The other day a guy from Bosnia of all places picked me up. Yes! Bosnia. These types of men are always attracted to me. That’s not what I am supposed to be typing about. There is a guy I met about 2 months ago, physically he is exactly what I asked the most high for. But can we have a relationship? I don’t know. He is in Jamaica right now and will return, in April of this year. He did seem nice ….maybe we can be an item, a Rastafari couple is a beautiful thing! Rastafari!

So why does the Jamaican Rastaman have a bad wrap in relationships?

There are some Jamaican rasta man who “take advantage” of the fact that women find them so attractive. Most are not like this. They no Jah is always watching and always listening and do not wish to be a sinner. This is the truth ladies. So please do not judge the whole bunch because of a few rotten ones. So whats the verdict on the jamaican rastaman?

There are many who are gentle and have good intentions. If you are a Rastafari woman you increase your chances greatly of having a loving fulfilling relationship. There are some who are “too in love with woman” and therefore sleep around. Knowing who we are and knowing what we Rasta know, these men are the exception and not the rule.

If you have a true Jamaican rastaman in your life, you are blessed you may not know it. But you are blessed. Oh and you don’t have to Jamaican to Rasta, but this is the type I am most familiar with as a Jamaican Rastafari woman.

I knew I would eventually write this post. I was just waiting for a time when I felt healed enough to do it. I will explain.

My Rasta X – Boyfriend – Well maybe not so Rasta

About 8 weeks ago I met someone who dressed and looked as if he practiced the same faith as me. We met on the bus and were instantly attracted to eachother. Ok well I am exaggertating a little bit. I did meet him on the bus about 2 years ago and we chatted briefly about various things related to the black community. I ran into him twice in this fasion. At those times, he had no dreadlocks, and did not sport red yellow and green. I too did not have my locks and did not wear red yellow and green. So, 2 years later there we were on the bus, both Rasta – I thought. We chatted and he invited me to his house. I was more than excited, I knew I wanted to be intimate with him, as I had not been with a man in a very long time and vowed to be intimate with a man only of Rastafari spirituality. Now I know this sounds very fast on my part, however I was not with a man for A VERY LONG TIME, and in the rastafari community between two Rastafarians, there no such thing as “too fast” only love. So, we planned for me to go to his house the next day, there our court ship began. From day one things were way far from what they should have been to start a healthy relationship.

He took his socks off while I was there - Rastafarians have a huge amount of respect for other people, I was offended by this but it was his house, so maybe this was more my fault than his. He didnt even think to ask me if that was ok. Nobody wants to see there dates feet on the first date I am sure
He didnt get the same vibe from the music as me - Any true Rastaman knows, the vibe of Rastafari is in the music. He just didnt get it
He asked me if I wanted to go lay down in the room- I thought again that was impolite
He lectured me extensively on the life of Emperor Haille Selassie - This was rude because he is assuming that I dont already know, and second, that I wanted to hear what he had to say on the matter
His breath was not nice – For goodness sakes when a woman comes over, must you smoke weed and be in need of breath mint.

No, I did not sleep with him that day

My Beliefs about Rastafari are simple and private

So, silly me, being so desperate to be intimate with a man of the same spiritual beliefs as me. I went over a second time. I wasnt sure if I wanted to have sex or not. I kind of got the feeling that if I did, that was as good as it was going to get between us. I could sense that we had very little in common and obviously approached the whole spirituality thing in different ways. I believe that Rastafari is something of the heart, that goes with me everywhere I go. He believe that Rastafari is Emperor Haille Selassie, and if you dont know as much as him about Emperor Haile Selassie, then you are not Rasta. So sad, if he only knew the truth. I explained to him that my spiritual beliefs have been there since I was born, and that I was choosing to express it now. So he could try his best to convince me to see things his way as much as he wants. I also believe Rastafari is not something you force on others. If you are thats great, but you definetly dont go around forcing people to believe what you believe, and Rasta dont behave like that. I also told him that Rasta are calm patient and down to earth. One day he went on to yell at me, and tell me “I will die for my beliefs” I thought that was going to far. I felt like I was part of a fundametalist camp or cult, the more I listened to this man talk about Rastafari.
As I am reading this I realized that I new he wasnt like me but I somehow felt better sleeping with him with him calling him self this title, even thoug I knew he wasnt.

What the psychic told me before I met him

I was going through a very hard time emotionally about 2 weeks before I met this man. I was praying to God to please let me meet a psychic. Long story short I did meet a psychic and we became friends. Anyway I asked will I meet a man, she said yes. I said “is he Rasta?” She said “no” but “he has dreadlocks, and grew up learning about the Rasta way of life.” I said “what?, a guy with dreadlocks who is not Rasta? Oh, no it would be better to say he doesnt weart dreadlocks but you are telling me he wears dreadlocks but is not Rasta?” Then she said he is, then I said what? Is he or isnt he? she said hes not. This was on my mind still like an hour later. I wasnt taking what she was saying that seriously but if this guy has locks and is not Rasta then that would make him a fake rasta. So I decided to ask her one more time. Is he a rasta or isnt he…..(understand something folks, Rastafari is something that comes from the heart, its like being psychic so me asking her to tell me the accurate truth is like me asking her to look deep into the heart of this man she says is somewhere in my future) she said “hes not!” I asked her 3 more times she said again “he not!! So, I accepted feeling that someone who knows about Rastafari will accept me. And that was that.

I told him what the psychic said

After the first time I went over to his house, we talked on the phone quite a few times. I told him that I had a psychic friend and that she told me I was going to meet a Rastafari man who had dreadlocks but was not Rasta. He said, I dont like this lady.

Where do my Rastafari Beliefs come from when my parents are not Rasta

My Rastafari beliefs come from the most high, even though I know rules and dont follow them to a T I still know who I am. Remember its like being born psychic, you just are. Another cannot come and tell you that because you dont live as one that you are not one. You just are or you are not. Rastafari has always been in my heart, and always will be.

If you really want to know, Jesus was Rastafari, ask any born Rasta

Any true Rasta will tell you that Jesus of the bible is a Rasta, for sure, there is no doubt in my mind. Everything that we Rasta have been through. Jesus went through. God decided Jesus would be jesus before his conception, jesus spoke of god as a teen, jesus healed people, jesus prayed, jesus was vegitarian. The list goes on but most of these are very private and personal for me…but please ask a born Rasta if you want confirmation. Not someone who said they became Rasta at 25. Most Rastas know when they are children or in their teens that they are Rasta and dont express it till much later.

So what was the final draw between this non Rastaman and my self?

He threw garlic at me, and called me a devil worshipper, not because I talked to a psychic, but because the psychic was white. Thats just stupid, and we are not Racist, we have a love for all humanity. Bob Marley was half white, so I guess this jerk hates half of Bob Marley. My first experience with astrology at age 16

You may be wondering, How did you ever get into this “astrology readings” thing in the first place. Well, when I was 16 years old, I wasnt feeling so well and had to spend the evening at home. My mom took me to the drug store, and at the check out counter were some books on all the zodiac signs. I picked up the book on my zodiac, paid for it and brought it home. I laid down in bed and began reading that book. I remember thinking, wow this is so accurate, it described me to “a T” and as they say, the rest is history.

My addiction to astrology books

Since that first experience I began to collect books on astrology. All these books gave me different perspectives on the planets, how to do readings, and the meanings of the zodiac signs. The very best books on astrology I ever came across were found in the Montreal public library. Those books had history, and information, and had barely been used. One book in particular called “The round Arc” of Astrology, provided me with the most detailed intelligent information about astrology. This is a reference library so this book did not become part of my collection. Anybody that knows me knows astrology is my first love, and I cannot help but talk about it.

I started learning about the planets through life experiences

I bought astrological software when I was about 22 years old. To be honest when I first got it I didn’t know what to do with it, and I am one of those people who, doesn’t like to read instructions, so for the first few months I just played around with it. Clicking here clicking there. Then I started to look at my own chart and look up the meaning of the location of the planets in my own chart, in the many astrology books I had. This helped me a lot to be able to actually read my birth chart and astrological transits. Now, I know pretty much immediately what the planets mean in a particular house. Every now and then I do look up meanings just to be sure, I still got it…lol

My Rastafari beliefs and astrology readings

My Rastafarian spirituality helps me to do my readings with integrity and honesty. I focus on the positive as much as possible in my readings. Is dating outside your Race a form of self hate? I began to wonder about this after I watched a video on YouTube, on a talk show, about white women who say they can “please a black man, better than a black woman can.” There was one guest who came on and said “…you don’t date your own kind because you hate your self, if you loved your self, you would want somebody just like you…” That got me thinking…

Black men dating white women has become the latest fad in my town

More and more african american men are opting to date white women. Is it self hate? is it status?..is it because he thinks it makes him “more acceptable” to whites? Perhaps all of the above. Perhaps none of the above. Maybe some black men are dating white women because this is who they have fallen in love with, and her color is irrelevant.

I think any kind of “exclusive” dating is “hate and racism”, and prejudgment. To assume that you wont like a person, or that you can’t see your self having sex with a certain group, or excluding one group completely as a “no dating” group – this is a form of hate. If you do this to a race that happens to be your own…then yes this is self hate…I know because I have thought this way in the past.

Why is it more acceptable for a black woman to date a white?

It seems to be more accepted as “love” when a black woman and a white man are dating, but not if the man is black and the woman is white. Why? Could it be that the black woman, is seen as “being given a better opportunity” or that white men are seen as “more capable” of true love, therefore it must be a true relationship. I wonder.

I have noticed a lot more asian men with black women now a days…is this the latest fad for single black women dating? As a Rastafarian woman, I believe you should be with whoever you love. I mean really love. Not the type of love that is here today and gone tomorrow because someone gains a few inches in the middle section. Real love doesn’t notice weight gain, or other little silly things that people often say is the reason they fell out of love. If an asian man and a black woman truly love each other, then nothing and no body should stop them from being together.

So is dating outside your race a form of self hate?

It can be, if you are dating the other person to ignore who you are or to avoid your own heritage, culture, or ethnicity. It can be if you hate one or both of your parents and have vowed consciously or unconsciously not to have children of your culture / race. It can be if you can’t call your self your ethnicity out loud and say ” I am ______ and I am proud!” and mean it. Dating outside your race is not always a form of self hate, but it can be if you are doing it for the wrong reasons.

Because they have a commonality, or love understanding, and commitment, which stems from their belief in God. Now I am speaking of Jamaican rastafarians. 50% of american marriages end in divorce – this is what the stats say

This is a fact and maybe that percentage has actually grown since the last time I checked. This is often because the ingredients were not there in the first place to make the marriage a success. What are the ingredients of successful marriage? From my spiritual perspective….

Which brings me to my next question. How many people actually fulfill their marital obligations. Now this is tricky question. There are spiritual marital obligations, social marriage obligations and the unspoken marital obligations. This is why I personally don’t believe that strongly in marriage. There is so much that gets mixed up, and things that shouldnt be the priority are, sometimes people feel pressured the moment they get married and a partner becomes disappointed because an obligation was not fulfilled.

Many Rastafarians stay single for long periods of time between relationships and would rather be “picked up” than do the picking up themselves. This im guessing is because they see the world differently and rarely look at non rastafarians as someone to settle down with.

many of my views here are based on the fact that I am female, and that I am a dread, and that I cannot be with a non rasta man. I know many rastafarian men who are very willing to date women who are not dreads, however there too exists those who are not.

Please note, I am a jamaican rasta, so my views are different from those of say, an american rasta.

I cannot date someone outside of my rasta spiritual beliefs

It is difficult for me, as a dread, to date outside of my spiritual beliefs. I absolutely cannot do it! Even if I tried, I could not do it. As a rastafarian women, to have a rastfarian man in my life is extremely important. Not because this is part of some written doctrine, but because I need to be with someone who understands me through and through. My spirituality is a very important part of who I am. I want to share this aspect of my self with another dread, and him sharing his self with me. Most rastafarian women of Jamaican heritage feel this way.

I feel western society is spoiled, and when you have had many partners in your life time, people cannot see their partners anymore. Sometimes we only see what we want our partners to be. So we go for an upgrade. Sometimes this means a divorce, sometimes it means extra marital affairs, sometimes it means somebody younger, slimmer, with more money. The point is we need to start accepting the one we are with as the one we chose. And allow that person to be who they are. Is god a part of your marriage?

We stay true to his teachings and the rules of the bible. We make love num#1 in all things we do daily. If you are dating a rastafarian…

If you have the privilege of dating a rastafarian man or woman, you are a “lucky son of a …..” Really, i mean that… you most likely have someone who is 100 % committed to the relationship and who loves you like no other will. Rastafarians can be, and are pure love in human form. Not only that, chances are they see you the way god sees you. It doesn’t get better than that.

Marriage – a rastafarian perspective

Do rastafarians believe in marriage? We don’t make a big deal about getting married, but most of us who are involved in serious relationships with people who are say, christian, or catholic ( non Rastafarians) we have very little issue with getting married if it’s what will make our partner happy. The success any relationship, Rastafarians believe, is a healthy loving relationship is about the commitment of the 2 people involved, from the heart.

what does it really mean to get married?

My question as a rastafarian woman to the people reading this is…what does it really mean to get married anyway? It doesn’t come with any “guarantees”. Relationships should be a bout love and only love. I feel many people who get married now a days, do so for reasons other than just love.
