  1. Rastafari is NOT a religion: There are many that think Rastafari is a religion the same way as Christianity, Judaism, rastafariHinduism, Islam, etc.But Rastafari is actually not a Religion but more a way of life. This is more understood when you understand that many Rastas do not grow up in Rasta families, or do not have Rastafarian parents. We also do not practice any strict prayer times, or days of worship.
  2. Rastafari stems from Christianity: Rastafari comes from a strong convert to rastafaribelief in Christianity. In fact most Rastafarians of Jamaica, were Christians before accepting themselves as, and embracing themselves as, “Rasta”
  3. Rastafarians are vegetarian: Rastas believe eating meat is eating “flesh”, and that just can’t be a good thing. Many of us prefer to stick to the same diet of Jesus Christ. Fish, Bread, Vegetables, Honey and Milk….Check out The Bible to learn more.
  4. Many Rastafarian Women Cover their hair in public: Many Rastafarian women cover their hair in public. There is a passage in the bible (Corinthians 11: verse 9) which reads “She should cover her head”…”The woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head…”  which many women of Rastafari adhere to.
  5. Many Rastafarians believe Haile Selassie is Jesus Christ: Many OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERARastas believe Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia, (crowned king of Ethiopia in 1930) Was the second coming of Jesus Christ our Lord and savior.Did you know Emperor Haile Selassie was known to have touched and petted Lions without getting mauled? That is pretty spectacular! I was told they were his personal pets, but I still think its amazing. To learn more facts about Rastafari, read my book “White Rastafari.” Jah Bless.

  1. First, a comment on fact number 5. The historical reason Emperor Haile Selassie could pet lions without getting mauled was because those lions were his pets that had free range of his palace grounds. Second, I’m glad that Rastafari is not considered a religion but a way of life because Emperor Haile Selassie himself told the Jamaicans that he was not divine but a man, a Christian man like themselves.

    1. i also have heard that selassi denied himself as being a reincarnation of christ, but said he was a follower.. why do rastas recognize him as a “God” the bible tells us there is one god and one god only, nd it is a sin to place anyone above him.. this is the only part about rasta that confuse me

  2. i have the complete mind set of a rasta, but i do not believe selassi as the second coming of christ. i cannot accept selassi as a “God” because the bible teaches me there is only one God.. am i talking against rasta?

  3. Hi I have recently found my spiritual awakening in rastafari. Im from texas and I hav actually never met another rasta. I would like to meet and get to know you if u are a rasta livin in the san antonio/austin area. I am asking only for your friendship and I offer mine in return. Much love to all Jah children. Peace.

  4. See brthren & Sstaz, truth b told, Ras Tafari was man lyk we, thing is ; he was true follower of Christ hence the great things he did for Africa & the world. 2me HIM lyk ABRAHAM,NOAH,ELIJAH,MOSES or any of the patriach & prophets bt NOT God. I love Rasta!

  5. See brthren & Sstaz, truth b told, Ras Tafari was a man lyk we, thing is he was true follower of Christ; hence the great things he did fo Africa & the world. 2me HIM lyk ABRAHAM,MOSES,ELIJAH, NOAH or any of the patriachs & prophets. He is God neither is he Christ. I love Rasta!

  6. My first struggles as a Rasta were always based upon the beleives of selassie I being the second coming and the cigarettes. I man was an addict as well as famous Reggae star Dennis Brown, sight? But with much prayer, I realized that these thoughts were thoughts from deh devil, Babylon all along. Even if you do not beleive Selassie I was the second coming and beleive he was a disciple of Christ, than your mind is already in deh right place, sight?
I n I would reccomend you listen to Satta Massagana by the Abyssinians, the whole song and get back to I. Peace mi bredren, Jah bless and give the I’s hope. Respect!

  7. some things are very much confusing out there more special if u are the one who don peruse the bible..yes i do believ on rastaz bt Jesus is the only man who said ‘no one wil go to his father but by him’.

  8. Rastafari Greetings! Hail Selassie 1st has manifested the Christ Livity, that’s how InI sight HIM as God in flesh. Jesus the christ was a revolutionary showing ones how to live their lives for better living on earth not to save souls to go to an unknown place called heaven. Rastafari chants equal rights and justice and the promotion of Afrikan culture, religion, politics, education etc. Rastafari is the building of strong Afrikan conscious families and therefore nations. If u are look at Haile Selassie 1st through western religious spectacles u will never see him as God, but the afrikan could see God in the tress that give oxygen, the sun/son of god that give us light and life and the water that sustains us, we also saw God in man, just as followers in Jesus the christ saw God in him with out reading it in a book. HIM was a humble man, a mystic man yet a great leader and warrior……….I give thanks n praises to the God of InI Rastafari who has manifested HIM self in all InI so we can also see God in InI selves and trample this wicked babylon beast who doesn’t have the best interest of Afrikan at heart but want to keep taking from InI home land……Give thanks to the living I, Haile Selassie 1st…. Hon Marcus Garvey I
